A junior at Norfolk Academy, Marino has developed into a composed and competitive back-row player whose game is built around serve receive, defense, court awareness, communication, and effort. At 5’4”, she embraces the demanding role of libero/DS, where reading the game, controlling first contact, and responding quickly under pressure are essential.
Marino also competes for East Coast Volleyball Club (ECVC), where she has played competitive travel volleyball since age 12. Following her 16s season, she is continuing her development with ECVC 17 Pink.
Her 2026 club season concluded with a memorable result at the AAU Girls’ Junior National Volleyball Championships in Orlando, where her ECVC team won the 16 Club Ruby division championship. Competing on a national stage provided Marino with valuable experience against teams and athletes from across the country and reinforced the competitive mindset she brings to the court.
Her high school career has produced recognition as well. Marino was selected to the All-Tournament Team at the 2025 Virginia Volleyball Showcase while representing Norfolk Academy.
One of Marino’s distinguishing characteristics is her broader athletic background. In addition to volleyball, she has competed in varsity soccer and basketball at Norfolk Academy. That multi-sport experience has helped develop the quickness, anticipation, competitiveness, and athletic instincts that translate directly to her role as a defensive volleyball player.
Coaches value Marino’s coachability and resilience. She approaches practices and matches with an understanding that development is a continuous process, using both successful moments and difficult ones as opportunities to improve. Her willingness to compete, receive feedback, and continue working has become an important part of her identity as an athlete.
That same discipline carries into the classroom. Marino attends academically rigorous Norfolk Academy and maintains a 3.75 GPA while balancing academics, varsity athletics, club volleyball, training, and community involvement.
Her interests extend beyond athletics. As she begins exploring colleges, Marino is particularly interested in academics related to architecture, business, real estate, and real estate development. Finding a university where she can pursue strong academics while continuing to compete in volleyball is an important part of her college search.
Now beginning her junior season at Norfolk Academy, Marino enters an important stage of her development and recruiting journey. Her focus remains on becoming a more complete libero/defensive specialist—strengthening serve receive, defensive range, consistency, communication, and leadership while competing against increasingly strong competition.
With two high school seasons remaining before her 2028 graduation, Marino’s recruiting story is still being written. Her combination of competitive club experience, multi-sport athleticism, academic commitment, coachability, and drive provides a strong foundation as she works toward the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level.
For Alexandra Marino, the objective is straightforward: continue improving, compete at a high level, contribute to her teams, and find the college environment where she can thrive both academically and athletically.
